After more than 25 years in the masonry business, the Ave Maria Oratory project is now part of Falcon Contractors\u2019 identity and collective memory. The project was a mixture of opportunities, challenges, and innovation.<\/p>
The project took over fifteen months, nearly 31,000 hours, and more than 90 team members working double shifts and weekends. Falcon played an essential part in the final design and development of many facets of the project. Many of the windows, arches, and doorways were treated as typical design builds which were developed to meet the uniqueness of the project with the combined effort of Suffolk \/ Kraft, Cannon Design, and Falcon Contractors.<\/p>
Holman & Bernard and Falcon Contractors had to design and develop a system to anchor the individual pieces of custom hand-crafted stone as well as the stone in horizontal ceiling applications. The New Mexico Travertine and Arriscraft Stone blended together to truly form a work of art.<\/p>
Due to problems with various arch pieces of stone being damaged during transport, the innovation of pinning and fabricating pieces on site were brought forth to maintain the job schedule and building integrity. Working with Fraco scaffolding to heights of 106 ft, masons were able to work safely and within the constraints of the site layout.<\/p>
The experiences Falcon’s masons gained on this project have inspired other masonry techniques. It was a reminder that masonry is not only a trade, but also involves individual artistry.<\/p>
Falcon’s team learned they are adaptable and capable on all challenging projects, no matter the size. With the assistance of Ruck Brothers (Ft. Myers, FL), Quickrete Companies (Atlanta, GA), Whitecap (Naples, FL), Hohmann & Bernard (New York), the result is absolutely beautiful.<\/p>
