Two important Prescriptive-to-Performance (P2P) research projects have been released by The RMC Research Foundation. The first, \u201cPreparation of a Performance-Based Specification for Cast-in-Place Concrete,\u201d includes a comprehensive review of worldwide performance-based specifications and recommendations for transitioning the industry toward their use. The second, an \u201cExperimental Case Study Demonstrating Advantages of Performance Specifications,\u201d includes technical data from a side-by-side comparison of prescriptive concrete mixtures and performance-based mixtures. Both projects are major accomplishments within the overall P2P movement.<\/p>

\u201cThe movement toward performance-based specifications will not only continue but will strengthen the industry’s reputation in producing one of the best building materials available,\u201d said foundation chairman Christopher Crouch.<\/p>

Both P2P projects have been closely reviewed by the P2P Steering Committee and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) Research and Engineering Standards Committee, the group that has spearheaded the P2P movement.
