VIDEO: JamLogic Smart Workzone Software

Scalable data collection and analysis traffic-management software gives drivers a heads up about congestion up ahead.

1 MIN READ

Whether your agency has two or 200 message signs, camera and sensor trailers, portable sensors, and/or dynamic speed signs, JamLogic software uses real-time traffic data to give drivers travel times and alternate route suggestions. The web-based software wirelessly collects data via high-speed modems from various sensing devices or third-party traffic flow data, analyzes the information based on algorithms approved by the project engineer and/or public agency, and displays messages on portable and permanent message signs. Project managers and transportation department employees can receive notifications of traffic incidents via e-mail or text.

Common applications include automated queue warning (AQW), which tell downstream drivers there’s stop-and-go traffic ahead via message signs positioned upstream. Successful deployments have lowered rear-end collisions up to 70%. During I-94 West reconstruction in 2014, the Wisconsin DOT used the software to let drivers know they were heading toward a zipper merge (also called a dynamic lane merge).
