The biggest hurdle facing Keystone Masonry in building the 22,800-square-foot auditorium addition to Hazen High School in Renton, Wash., was maintaining both the horizontal and vertical lines while constructing a curve with straight units.
The auditorium expands on the brick of the original school, which incorporated more cast-in-place and precast concrete. The addition is a CMU structure with brick veneer and uses about 25,000 brick and 40,000 block. The $600,000 masonry contract also included some interior brickwork as part of the remodeling of the existing building.
